22nd December 2024 – (Hong Kong) A recent Legends Assemble event featuring legendary football stars from Real Madrid and Barcelona has sparked a major backlash among fans due to poor organisation and unmet expectations. On Friday, 20th December, attendees who paid up to HK$6,880 for VIP packages found themselves unable to meet the players or obtain autographs, leading to accusations of false advertising.
Reports indicate that 26 members of the Real Madrid Hong Kong Fans Club collectively spent approximately HK$200,000 on tickets that promised meet-and-greet opportunities with all participating players. However, many fans discovered that numerous players had already departed the venue when they arrived, and staff restricted access to those still present. Ultimately, fans were left with just 15 minutes to interact with a limited number of players.
In the aftermath, the supporters club filed a police report regarding the “bait-and-switch” allegations. The incident has drawn scrutiny, with local authorities confirming that two individuals reported their grievances to the Tin Shui Wai Police Station on 21st December. They expressed dissatisfaction with the event’s execution, noting that the organiser failed to deliver on several promised activities.
The event’s organiser has faced criticism not only for the disappointing experience but also for its handling of communication with fans. In a statement, they acknowledged the issues and pledged to collaborate with affected individuals to find a resolution, while also apologising for the shortcomings.
