22nd December 2024 – (Hong Kong) Andy Lau, the Hong Kong singer and actor, has drawn a significant crowd to his recent concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, particularly from Mainland fans eager to see their idol. However, the event has been marred by reports of rampant ticket scalping. Fans have taken to social media to express their frustrations, noting that tickets originally priced at HK$1,280 have been resold for as much as ¥12,800, equating to HK$13,628—a staggering 9.5 times the original price.

Numerous accounts describe a scene outside the venue where scalpers aggressively pursued concertgoers to buy tickets, with some offering up to ¥20,000 for a ticket. A fan remarked on social media that the scalpers were ubiquitous, openly selling tickets at exorbitant prices. Reports indicate that tickets initially priced at HK$980 were being sold for between ¥4,800 and ¥6,800, while the HK$1,280 tickets reached a peak resale price of ¥13,000.

One fan expressed dismay at the situation, stating that scalpers continued to demand high prices even as the concert commenced, suggesting a troubling trend of exploitation among fellow fans. Additionally, some concertgoers have reported encountering counterfeit tickets, prompting warnings to check for authenticity using UV light to verify security features.

Lau’s concert series, titled “Today… is the Day,” runs from 17th December to 4th January, with all shows sold out. The official ticket prices ranged from HK$680 to HK$1,280, highlighting the sharp contrast between the intended pricing and the inflated values seen in the resale market.
