24th December 2024 – (Changsha) The man who drove his SUV into a group of parents and schoolchildren in Hunan province, China, has been sentenced to a suspended death penalty just one month after the incident.

Huang Wen, 39, was found guilty of ramming his vehicle into a crowd outside a primary school on 19th November, injuring a total of 30 people, including 18 children. According to the Changde Intermediate People’s Court, Huang’s actions were motivated by a desire to vent his frustrations stemming from investment losses and family disputes.

The court’s announcement revealed that Huang accelerated his vehicle deliberately into the crowd and, when his car stalled, exited the vehicle to continue his assault with a weapon. The attack left seven individuals with severe injuries, while 16 others suffered moderate injuries, and seven more sustained minor injuries.

In addition to the suspended death sentence, Huang has been stripped of his political rights for life.
