24th December 2024 – (Hong Kong) As Christmas Eve unfolds in Hong Kong, many residents are venturing out to celebrate the festive season. The MTR has announced that most of its lines will operate overnight to accommodate the increased demand. However, in light of crowd control measures, several entrances at Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui stations will be temporarily closed.
The affected entrances at MTR Tsim Sha Tsui station include H and R, while East Tsim Sha Tsui station will see closures at entrances J, L1, L3, L4, L5, L6, N3, and P3. The MTR has urged passengers to utilise alternative entrances and to stay updated via the MTR Mobile app for the latest traffic news.
In addition to the entrance closures, various MTR lines, including the Island Line, Kwun Tong Line, and Tsuen Wan Line, will provide overnight services. Notably, several bus routes will also extend their operating hours, with Route 506 running until 1:30 am towards Choi Lung and 1:50 am towards Tuen Mun Ferry Pier.
The Transport Department has stated that several bus terminuses in Tsim Sha Tsui will cease operations at scheduled times throughout the evening, with services resuming once road conditions allow.
With a significant number of people expected to gather in popular areas like Lan Kwai Fong and Tsim Sha Tsui, the police are prepared to implement further crowd control measures if necessary, encouraging the public to be patient and follow official instructions. Road closures in Central will begin in the afternoon and continue into the early hours of Christmas Day, impacting several key streets.
