25th December 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Hospital Authority (HA) is investigating the potential use of drones to transport medication to remote areas and facilitate internal deliveries within hospitals. This initiative reflects the growing prevalence and diverse applications of drone technology in various sectors.
Sky Yeung, Chairman of the DNT FPV Drone Association H.K. China, noted in a radio programme today that hospitals in mainland China have successfully employed drones for several years, significantly reducing the risk of disease transmission through contact. Yeung expressed confidence that Hong Kong possesses the necessary conditions to implement a similar system.
He proposed initiating a pilot programme in remote and less populated areas to address public concerns before expanding the service to urban regions. Yeung also acknowledged that while weather conditions can impact drone operations, advancements in wind resistance and the limited number of drones used would mitigate these issues, making drone delivery a safe option for medication transport.
