25th December 2024 – (Shanghai) Tesla’s new megafactory in Shanghai is on track for construction completion by the end of this year, according to Tesla China. This facility, which commenced construction in late May, will focus on producing the company’s energy-storage product, the Megapack.

Mass production is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with an anticipated initial output of 10,000 units annually, translating to approximately 40 GWh of energy storage capacity.

Spanning around 200,000 square metres, the factory represents a significant investment of approximately 1.45 billion yuan (about 201.76 million U.S. dollars), as reported by the administration of the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Notably, this megafactory marks Tesla’s first such facility established outside the United States and serves as the company’s second plant in Shanghai, following the successful launch of its gigafactory in 2019.
