30th December 2024 – (Seoul) Jeju Air, a South Korean airline, was struck by a fatal incident yesterday, leading to the unfortunate deaths of 179 individuals.
Among the victims was a single mother who had successfully battled cancer and was celebrating by embarking on a trip. Little did she know that she would board a fateful flight, leaving behind her two children. Her final conversation with her son has now come to light.
According to reports from the Korean News Agency, local firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to identify the bodies. By 7.25am today, they had confirmed the identities of 140 individuals. The bodies are currently stored temporarily in the warehouse of Muan Airport, awaiting further procedures by forensic experts before being handed over to their families.
Among the many victims, most hailed from Gwangju and Jeollanam-do. Among them was a mother surnamed Kim who, after discovering she had stomach cancer last year, underwent a year of treatment. In November this year, she was declared cancer-free by her doctors, prompting her to celebrate her recovery with a trip to Thailand with friends.
Unfortunately, on the 29th, as she prepared to return home, she tragically boarded the ill-fated flight, leaving behind her 22-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter. A screenshot of a conversation emerged online, where the mother informed her son via text message:
“Mum’s friend sent the Jeju tangerines, they’ve been delivered to the doorstep.”
This simple message, now hauntingly poignant, became their final exchange.
Her grieving son, who had been solely reliant on his mother after his father’s passing two to three years ago, now faces the responsibility of caring for his sister and maintaining their home:
“I don’t know how to move forward from here.”
