31st December 2024 – (Naypyidaw) In a recent update regarding the tragic events at Crouching Tiger Villa in Myanmar’s Kokang region, Chinese authorities have officially disclosed the facts surrounding the incident that occurred in October 2023. Initial reports suggested that armed personnel shot at fleeing individuals, leading to numerous casualties and rumours of four Chinese police officers being buried alive. Today, officials have provided clarity on the situation.
On 19th October, 2023, the Ming family, one of the four major crime families in the area, alerted associates that the villa would be raided the following day. Armed guards were dispatched to transfer fraud suspects to alternative detention sites.
During the transfer on 20th October, suspects attempted to escape and were fired upon by the guards, resulting in four fatalities and four injuries. Authorities confirmed that all casualties were involved in the fraudulent operations, not law enforcement personnel.
Subsequent investigations led to the issuance of warrants for key members of the Ming family, resulting in several arrests. The Ming family has been implicated in a range of criminal activities, including scams targeting Chinese citizens.
This incident highlights the pervasive issue of organised crime in the region, where such syndicates have been linked to extensive fraud and violence, affecting thousands of victims. Law enforcement continues to pursue these operations to dismantle the criminal networks involved.
