3rd January 2025 – (Seoul) A group of South Korean investigators entered the presidential office in central Seoul on Friday morning, aiming to execute a detention warrant issued against President Yoon Suk-yeol by a Seoul court earlier this week, according to multiple media reports.
Investigators from the Corruption Investigation Office gained access to the presidential residence after navigating heavy security barriers. They are acting on a warrant related to Yoon’s controversial declaration of martial law, which has come under scrutiny.
In a statement, the Corruption Investigation Office confirmed, “The execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol has begun.”
The warrant was issued on Tuesday after President Yoon failed to respond to multiple requests for questioning and obstructed searches of his office in Seoul. Authorities are investigating whether his actions during a power grab on December 3 constituted rebellion.
The warrant remains valid for one week, and investigators may attempt to detain Yoon again if they are unsuccessful in their current efforts.
