5th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) On 2nd January, Hong Kong Customs successfully seized approximately 4 kilograms of suspected ketamine, with an estimated street value of around HK$1.9 million, in Tai Wai. The seizure followed a risk assessment that led officials to inspect an air parcel declared as clothing, which had arrived from the United Kingdom at a local consolidator’s warehouse.

During the inspection, Customs officers discovered the concealed ketamine within the parcel. Following this initial find, a controlled delivery operation was executed on 4th January in Causeway Bay, resulting in the arrest of a 59-year-old male consignee. He has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and is scheduled to appear at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on 6th January.

Customs authorities are committed to intensifying their enforcement efforts against drug trafficking through thorough intelligence analysis. They urge the public to remain vigilant and refrain from engaging in drug trafficking activities for financial gain. Individuals are advised against accepting offers to transport controlled items into or out of Hong Kong, and to avoid carrying unknown items for others or providing personal information for parcel deliveries.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious crime, with a maximum penalty of a $5 million fine and life imprisonment upon conviction. Customs reminds the public that involvement in drug trafficking can lead to severe consequences and urges caution to avoid taking unnecessary risks.
