7th January 2025 – (Shigatse) A major earthquake struck Dingri County in Shigatse, Tibet, disrupting local land and air transport and prompting the closure of tourist areas. As Dingri County is a key route to the Everest region, officials have announced a complete shutdown of attractions, with plans to reopen depending on the situation following aftershocks. Many stranded tourists have been adequately accommodated.

Local reports indicate that Dingri County serves as a base for climbers and tourists heading to Everest, with two major base camps located within the area. Officials noted that all travel services to the region have been suspended, with three tourists currently stranded. They are safely sheltering in an open area, with current temperatures ranging from 6 to 13°C, ensuring they remain warm.

During the earthquake, the Everest View Hotel, situated along a ridge near Mount Everest, experienced intense shaking. CCTV footage captured the hotel and surrounding mountains swaying noticeably, with one man rushing out from the building in response to the tremors.
