7th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A recent incident at an alumni dinner in Hong Kong has sparked major controversy after a Mandarin-speaking woman allegedly intruded on the event, consuming food without paying. Attendees initially mistook her for a guest before her identity was revealed during a prayer segment, when she asked in Putonghua, “What are you doing?” This prompted an awkward response from one participant, who explained they were praying.
As the meal progressed, a school staff member collected payments, but the woman claimed to be “invited by the principal,” insisting she should not have to pay. Following some commotion, the restaurant manager asked her to leave. However, instead of exiting, she became irate, declaring, “Is it wrong to have a meal? I’ve paid tens of thousands in tuition; can’t I eat one meal?”
Despite being asked to leave, she continued to help herself to food until the end of the event. The alumni association president eventually suggested they not involve the police and treat her presence as an act of goodwill.
The incident has drawn widespread criticism on social media, with users condemning the woman’s behaviour as shameless. Many expressed disbelief at her audacity, calling for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
