28th December 2024 – (Beijing) The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government recently issued arrest warrants for six fugitives accused of promoting “Hong Kong independence” and revoked the passports of seven others. This move has drawn criticism from European officials regarding the enforcement actions taken by Hong Kong authorities.

In response, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the European Union firmly rejected European intervention, framing it as an infringement on China’s sovereignty under the guise of defending democracy and freedom. The spokesperson urged European nations to adhere to international law and respect the legal framework of Hong Kong, calling for an end to support for individuals deemed as instigators of anti-China activities.

The spokesperson emphasised that Hong Kong operates as a society governed by the rule of law, where laws are enforced and violations are addressed. Enforcement actions against individuals fleeing overseas, allegedly involved in long-term anti-China activities, were described as justified and in line with public sentiment, international law, and global norms.
