30th December 2024 – (Jerusalem) Israel’s national carrier, El Al, announced on Monday that it will extend the suspension of flights between Tel Aviv and Moscow until the end of March next year. The decision follows ongoing discussions with Russian and Israeli authorities to assess the current situation, the airline stated in a press release.
Initially, the airline had suspended flights for at least a week, citing “developments in Russian airspace.” This decision was made in response to reports of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian airports, including those in Moscow, which followed a recent incident involving an Azerbaijan Airlines plane that crashed in Kazakhstan while en route from Baku to Grozny, Russia.
El Al typically operates five weekly flights between Ben Gurion Airport, located outside Tel Aviv, and Moscow. The extended suspension reflects the airline’s commitment to prioritising passenger safety amid the evolving geopolitical landscape.
