24th December 2024 – (Hong Kong) A fire erupted in a lower floor unit of Chin Hing House at Hing Wah (II) Estate, located on Wan Tsui Road, Chai Wan early this morning. The blaze was reported at 12.26am, with flames visible from the windows and smoke billowing into the sky.
Firefighters arrived and deployed a team equipped with hoses to extinguish the fire, which they managed to contain swiftly. Initial investigations suggest that the cause of the fire is not suspicious, and fortunately, there were no reported injuries. Approximately 110 residents were successfully evacuated to safety.
The affected unit, measuring around 300 square feet, was occupied by an uncle and his nephew, both of whom were asleep at the time of the incident. The fire reportedly started from an extension cord connected to an electric kettle. Upon realising the danger, the pair fled barefoot to escape the flames. Nearby, a meter room also emitted smoke, but firefighters confirmed it was safe after the fire was extinguished.
Additionally, staff members at a nearby care home assisted several elderly residents in evacuating to outdoor areas for safety during the incident. The fire department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
