24th December 2024 – (Hong Kong) The second National Security Education Study Tour organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government concluded as participants returned to Hong Kong this afternoon. A group consisting of 131 principals, teachers, and students from 19 primary and secondary schools embarked on a journey to Beijing on 18th December. While the primary school cohort wrapped up their tour on 22nd December, the secondary school group continued to Shanghai, returning today.

Participants on this study tour were primarily selected from winning teams and their coaches who excelled in the Territory-wide Inter-school National Security Knowledge Challenge. Notably, the group included non-Chinese speaking students participating in both the challenge and the study tour for the first time.

Accompanied by dignitaries such as the Secretary for Security, Chris Tang, and the Secretary General of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR, Mr Au Chi-kwong, the delegation engaged in various educational activities during their visit. They explored iconic sites such as the Museum of the Communist Party of China, the National Museum of China, and the China Academy of Space Technology, fostering a deeper understanding of the country’s system, history, and culture.

Student feedback highlighted their enthusiasm and profound experiences during the tour, with individuals like Yang from Ng Clan’s Association Tai Pak Memorial School expressing admiration for the heroes of China’s past. Lam from Munsang College (Hong Kong Island) emphasized the importance of unity and participation in the country’s future, while Kabra from Queen’s College noted how the tour broadened his understanding of China’s history and national security.

At the closing ceremony, officials including the Secretary for Security and the Under Secretary for Education encouraged students to continue their pursuit of knowledge and understanding, emphasizing the significance of learning about Chinese history, culture, and the principle of “one country, two systems.” The delegation’s experiences aim to cultivate a deeper appreciation for national security and to inspire proactive contributions to both Hong Kong and the Motherland.
