7th January 2025 – (Shenzhen) A Hong Kong woman has been discovered wandering the streets of Shenzhen, dragging a suitcase and dressed in a short red dress, prompting widespread discussion among netizens. She has reportedly been living in the city for more than a year, often sleeping in parks and train stations. The situation gained traction on Xiaohongshu, where several users shared details about her background and past sightings in Hong Kong.
In a series of videos posted on Xiaohongshu, a user named “Ah Wai” documented his encounter with the woman in the Buji area. He noted her thin clothing in the chilly weather and described her appearance, including her long hair and a red top paired with a grey skirt. During their conversation, she initially declined offers of food but eventually accepted a meal and cash from Ah Wai, who also suggested she purchase warmer clothing.
Upon questioning, the woman identified herself as a Hong Kong native, stating that she had been in Shenzhen for over a year after previously staying in Huaqiangbei. She mentioned that she often slept near the Science Museum and that she was accustomed to her current lifestyle. Ah Wai later interviewed a local stall owner who speculated that the woman might be suffering from mental health issues, as she typically refuses help.
While sharing a meal in a secluded area, the woman revealed that she receives a monthly allowance from Hong Kong, which amounts to approximately HK$2,000 to HK$3,000. She expressed her connection to the city, mentioning her late stepfather and her younger brother, whose whereabouts she was uncertain about.
Netizens have been actively discussing her case, with some suggesting that she resembles a woman who was previously reported as living on the streets in Buji. Others noted that she has been seen in various locations in Hong Kong, suggesting she frequently travels between the two cities. Some individuals shared recent encounters with her in places like Tsuen Wan and Diamond Hill, casting doubt on her claim of being homeless in Shenzhen for an extended period.
