Hong Kong’s catering industry set for bumper Christmas due to increased visitor numbers

24th December 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s catering industry is poised for a significant boost this Christmas, with many restaurants reporting full bookings and an anticipated 10 per cent year-on-year rise in business over the holiday period. This surge is largely attributed to the revival of a multiple-entry visa scheme for Shenzhen residents, which resumed on 1st December.

Industry leaders have noted a resurgence in the retail scene since the scheme’s reinstatement, allowing Shenzhen residents to visit Hong Kong an unlimited number of times within a year. This has led to an influx of mainland tourists, positively impacting local businesses.

Simon Wong Ka-wo, president of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades, highlighted that many renowned outlets, including Michelin-starred restaurants, are experiencing high demand as festive season bookings soar. He noted that various discounts and promotions at eateries have further stimulated local consumption, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere this holiday season.
