4th January 2025 – (Seoul) On 39th December, 2024, a tragic incident occurred involving a Jeju Air Boeing aircraft en route from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan International Airport, South Korea. The plane reportedly suffered a bird strike, leading to landing gear failure and engine malfunction. After an emergency landing, it veered off the runway, collided with a concrete wall, and exploded, resulting in the loss of all 179 lives aboard. The captain’s courageous efforts in the face of disaster have left an indelible mark on many.

In the wake of this tragedy, a former flight attendant, identified as Ms. Song (33), attended a memorial service at Muan International Airport. Dressed in black, she expressed her grief while recalling the kindness of the late captain, who was well-known for his supportive nature towards crew members.

“During my time at Jeju Air from 2019 to 2020, I flew several times with him. He was always attentive and insisted that other staff treat me, the youngest crew member, with extra care,” she shared, her voice trembling. “It’s heartbreaking to think that such a wonderful person is no longer with us.”

As the memorial space at Muan International Airport opened for public tributes, family members and friends left heartfelt notes. One note, reportedly from the captain’s brother, expressed deep sorrow, reflecting on the captain’s struggle during the final moments and wishing him peace.

Another flight attendant who had previously worked with the captain remarked, “Even until the very end, the captain and the crew put passenger safety first. We will always remember him and pray for his peace.”

Amid the outpouring of grief, videos surfaced showing the captain making desperate attempts to control the aircraft until its final moments. He was seen reaching for the controls, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to safety. As investigations continue, the airline’s CEO announced a 15% reduction in flights, and the company faces public scrutiny online.
