4th January 2025 – (New York) On Friday, Juan Merchan, the New York judge overseeing Donald Trump’s hush money case, announced that sentencing will take place on 10th January, 2025, at 9.30am in a Lower Manhattan courthouse.
The judge has mandated that Trump must appear for sentencing, either in person or virtually, with a preference for notification by 5th January. Merchan noted that there are no legal obstacles to proceeding with the sentencing, emphasizing that resolving the case would be in the best interest of all parties involved.
Merchan expressed that delaying the sentencing until after Trump’s second presidential term would be less favourable, particularly with Trump set to assume office again on 20th January, 2025.
Previously, the judge had postponed the sentencing, which was originally scheduled for 26th November, 2024. In May 2024, a New York jury found Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments made to a porn star in 2016, with the initial sentencing date set for 11th July, 2024.
