26th December 2024 – (Manchester) Manchester City faces the looming threat of missing out on next season’s Champions League following a recent slump, as cautioned by manager Pep Guardiola. The club, seeking their 15th consecutive appearance in Europe’s premier club competition, has endured a dismal run with just one victory in their last eight Premier League fixtures, currently sitting seventh and 12 points adrift of table-toppers Liverpool.
Guardiola’s squad trails Nottingham Forest by four points, the team holding the crucial fourth spot for Champions League qualification.
Speaking to the press before their Everton clash, Guardiola reflected on the significance of Champions League qualification, highlighting the historical fluctuations faced by clubs in England. He expressed concerns over City’s current position, acknowledging the risk they now face.
Following their Everton fixture, City is set to visit Leicester City on 29th December.
