23rd December 2024 – (Hong Kong) Muse Fest HK 2024, launched by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) in November, has successfully concluded, drawing more than 630,000 participants to over 70 engaging programmes organised by LCSD museums and art spaces. This year’s event marked a 20 per cent increase in attendance compared to last year and celebrated its 10th edition under the theme “Hong Kong H.A.S. (History. Art. Science.) Museums,” showcasing the city’s rich cultural heritage and artistic diversity.
A highlight of the festival was the two-day inaugural Fun@Museum Carnival, which attracted over 25,000 attendees—three times the number from the previous year. The carnival, centred on Chinese culture, featured 24 performances and interactive workshops focused on the development and preservation of Chinese traditions. Held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Space Museum, and Salisbury Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui, the event included performances of Intangible Cultural Heritage items such as lion dances and puppetry, alongside hands-on activities like lion head crafts and postcard-making.
The November weekends offered a series of enjoyable events across various museums, including the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum and the Hong Kong Railway Museum. Notably, the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware celebrated its 40th anniversary with an immersive light show and concert. Exclusive events for LCSD Museum Pass holders, such as “Meet the Curator” sessions, were also well received.
This year, the festival expanded its reach by including 12 museums from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Museum Alliance. The Shenzhen Museum’s participation with the Hong Kong Museum Festival 2024 received positive feedback, featuring popular activities like wood carving and drama classes.
To further enrich the museum experience, the LCSD is hosting a Selected Museum Publications and Souvenirs Mega Sale, running until March 31, 2025, offering discounts of up to 50 per cent on selected items. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the LCSD museums to take advantage of these offers and deepen their understanding of the history of museums, art, culture, and science.
