4th January 2025 – (Frankfurt) Germany’s Federal Police are facing significant technical difficulties that are impacting operations at airports across the country. These IT problems are essential for passenger processing and security checks, leading to considerable delays for travelers.
A spokesperson for the police indicated that border control officers are now required to conduct manual screenings due to the system failures. Reports from Düsseldorf Airport highlight hour-long queues for passengers, especially those arriving from non-Schengen countries.
The root cause of the malfunction remains unclear. Frankfurt Airport has confirmed the nationwide IT disruption, stating, “There is currently a nationwide IT disruption,” with ongoing investigations into the issue.
Travelers are experiencing long wait times, and in some cases, passengers have been required to remain on board their aircraft. A spokesperson for Düsseldorf Airport echoed these concerns, noting disruptions in border control for both arrivals and departures from non-Schengen areas, while providing water to affected passengers.
Despite the technical issues, Frankfurt Airport has stated that the overall flight schedule remains unaffected, although entry delays into Germany are expected. Berlin-Brandenburg Airport reported similar delays but confirmed that operations for landing flights continue without interruption.
