23rd December 2024 – (Hong Kong) Recent plummeting temperatures have led to a worrying incident at Laguna City in Cha Kwo Ling, where tiles on corridor walls reportedly cracked. A post on the Facebook group “Laguna City Discussion Forum” drew attention to the issue, warning others to exercise caution while navigating the affected corridors.
Accompanying the post was a photograph showing scattered shards of tiles on the ground, with some tiles visibly arching away from the wall. This revelation prompted a flurry of speculation among local residents, many attributing the damage to the recent cold snap, which may have caused materials within the walls to contract and expand.
Comments within the forum suggested that the placement of kitchen appliances, particularly stoves and refrigerators, could be exacerbating the problem. One resident noted that prolonged exposure to heat from cooking appliances might contribute to the thermal stresses on the wall, leading to differing expansion rates between the materials used, which in turn could result in tile breakage.
Others highlighted the age of the building as a potential factor, recalling previous inspections of their own residences where management had addressed similar issues. They advised fellow residents to check for signs of detachment in tiles and to take precautions to avoid accidents.
