30th December 2024 – (Hong Kong) A traffic accident occurred near the airport’s departure drop-off area at around 7.26am today, leading to the closure of several lanes on Airport Road towards the Airport South Interchange. The Transport Department reported that only a limited number of lanes are currently open for drivers.
The Airport Authority has also issued an advisory, urging passengers to allocate additional time for their journeys to the airport due to significant congestion in the affected area. Drivers are advised to remain vigilant and heed local traffic arrangements.
The incident involved a private vehicle that lost control and crashed near the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre adjacent to North Lantau Hospital. Fortunately, the male driver was unharmed and sought assistance independently. The vehicle involved has since been removed, and the road has been cleared; however, traffic build-up towards the airport is expected to persist for some time.
