6th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) At 7.09am today, a serious accident occurred on Lin Cheung Road, where a truck collided with the rear of a stationary garbage truck near Hoi Tat Estate in Cheung Sha Wan. The impact caused major damage to the truck’s cabin, leaving the driver unconscious and trapped inside.
Paramedics responded swiftly, with firefighters using tools to extricate the driver, who was then rushed to the hospital for urgent care. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead.
Reports indicate that the driver of the garbage truck was not present at the scene, and police are currently contacting the garbage truck company’s management for further information. Footage from a reader’s dashcam shows the garbage truck parked with its hazard lights on when the collision occurred, suggesting that the truck driver was unable to stop in time, leading to the truck’s rear being lifted off the ground.
In response to the accident, the Transport Department announced that several lanes on Lin Cheung Road towards the Western Harbour Crossing near Tonkin Street West have been closed, resulting in heavy traffic congestion in the area as drivers are redirected to the remaining open lanes.
